House Doctor Moments Autumn 2010
Filed Under Danish Design, Furniture, Inspiration, Shop Stuff | 3 Comments
I received the new House Doctor Moments catalogue a few weeks ago and my copy is very well thumbed at this stage. I had been looking forward to its arrival for weeks and it did not disappoint as I well and truly devoured it, repeatedly. To say that I want to order EVERYTHING for the shop is a slight understatement. It’s so difficult to choose a few select pieces when their styling is this good…
House Doctor are based in Denmark (you know I’m such a sucker for Danish design!) and they produce two collections every year. The Everyday catalogue showcases their new collection, which is updated annually and launched in January and Moments is then released in time for Autumn and consists of more new products and Christmas decorations. I’m chuffed that Mabel & Violet is the only online shop in Ireland currently stocking House Doctor, so if you are looking for something from the range that we don’t have in stock you can get in touch with us here and we will do our best to get it for you.

Ok, so when Mabel & Violet is big and all growed up, not to mention rich and famous; I have earmarked this bijou little spot for one of our photo shoots or maybe I could just move in…
I just love that it’s nearly falling down and full of peeling wallpaper, crumbling plaster, ornate furniture and chandeliers and other intriguing little details. Divine!

Handmade Rag Dolls – Mrs Crimmins
Filed Under Kids Stuff, Shop Stuff | 1 Comment
I’m back in London again but I just wanted to stop by to show you the latest arrivals to the shop…
Available exclusively online from Mabel & Violet, I’d like to introduce you to Mrs Crimmins for Paper Bird – a collection of beautifully hand crafted cloth dolls, each one with her own unique identity.
I am so in love with these beautiful rag dolls, they just appeal so much to the little girl in me.
Each one of these cloth dolls is handmade with love in Ireland by the extremely creative hands of Dublin based designer Paper Bird.
They are made from tea dyed unbleached cotton, fire retardent fibres and recycled vintage fabrics, beads and unusual findings.
Each doll is unique and they are real collectors items, yet they are robust enough for a child to play with.
Doesn’t every little girl deserve a really special doll like this?
You can just click on each image above for more details or to make a purchase.

Absentee Bloglord, Sneak Peek & Big News!
Filed Under Banter, My Home, Shop Stuff | 6 Comments
This absentee blogger is back…briefly. This time with a sneak peek of a corner of the living room here at Mabel & Violet towers. More images are set to follow but not before the “big reveal” elsewhere – oh the drama and suspenders of it all!
While I’m here, I thought I’d take the time to let you know our other big news – himself has got a new job and we are moving to that London! I can hardly contain myself with the excitement of moving to such a great city but I will really miss Dublin too. I’m really happy to report that our Irish customers will not be affected by this move because I will continue to run the online boutique from across the pond and all of our products will continue to be stored and sent from within Ireland, so no need to worry about any ker-azy postage costs from the UK! We only found out about this two weeks ago and we are moving two weeks from now so we are frantically trying to find somewhere to live and sort out our entire lives, hence my extensive absentee bloglord-iness. For shame though and in the words of my 4th class teacher – “must try harder.”

Copenhagen Living
Filed Under Danish Design, Inspiration, Shop Stuff | 2 Comments
I’m pretty obsessed with Danish design, which is why you’ll find some of my favourite Danish brands in my online boutique. Lately though, I have also been obsessing about Copenhagen and I really look forward to visiting this beautiful city some day soon. I always think that the best way to see a city is to go native so I’ve been looking at rental properties (one of my favourite pastimes in the whole world!) while I save up for the airfare.
One of the things that I love about Danish design is the simplicity. It is so evident in their homes, even the homes available on the rental market. Everything in this apartment is pared back so that the beautiful plasterwork and feature windows take centre stage. Not a single magnolia wall or ugly old carpet in sight. Irish landlords, please take note!

World Cup WAG-STRAVAGANZA…
Filed Under Shop Stuff | 1 Comment
…because it’s time for a sale and sure there’s nothing like a World Cup pun. And not a single French joke in sight.
P.S. Sorry for the lengthy absence, had a spot of bother with WordPress recently but we seem to be back in action again.

New Kids Section in the Shop
Filed Under Kids Stuff, Shop Stuff, Wall decor, Wallpaper | 1 Comment
It gives me great joy to announce our precious new arrival to the world – our Kids & Babies section! It’s been a while in the offing but Mabel & Violet are very proud aunts indeed and can be found busily fussing over the little mite, oohing and aahing at every turn.
We currently have colourful wall stickers and wallpaper from the ever cool danish ferm LIVING KIDS range , moveable wall stickers from Australian brand Little Chipipi and the gorgeous A to Z Print from the wonderful Dublin design studio of Paper Bird.
This is just the beginning though, there are plenty more lovely products for little ones on the way so watch this space!

Talent for Haiti Auction
Filed Under Banter, Jewellery, Shop Stuff | 2 Comments
Oh my, I have been a bit slack on the blogging front this week. Just dropping in to let you know about Talent For Haiti, which is a charity auction created by Eilis Boyle and Helen James to fundraise for the victims of the earthquake. Many designers have donated lots of goodies and there was an auction last week for a private concert with Glen Hansard and Mark Geary, what a pair of gents! Sadly, somebody else won that auction although there are lots of auctions still ongoing so click here to help a very worthy cause and get your mits on some of the spoils!
We have donated this Red Tigers Eye & Turquoise Necklace by Juvi Designs. The starting bid for this piece is €100 so it’s the perfect opportunity to try to get it for a fraction of the normal retail price, which is €175 on Mabel & Violet and over €200 in other shops. All proceeds (minus eBay and Paypal commission) will be donated to Medecins Sans Frontieres, an independent medical aid agency providing relief in Haiti.

Delightful Bunting Surprise
Filed Under Gifts, Handmade, My Home, Shop Stuff, Wall decor | 4 Comments
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose… this beautiful bunting that’s what Bill! While going through the new arrivals of bespoke bunting for some customers the other day, I stumbled across this pretty piece with my name on it, both figuratively and literally! And there was a note from my lovely friend Aoife who creates this bunting by hand, wishing me a belated happy birthday. She is so sweet and so is my new bunting, which is taking pride of place above my office desk and it gives me a little lift every time I look up. It also reminds me that spring is just around the corner, yippee!
