I keep coming across the work of stylist Twig Hutchinson lately and you know what? The girl’s got talent and exceptional good taste! I love her subtle use of yellow, which I find a little strange because yellow is a colour that is nowhere to be found in either my home or in my wardrobe. I think it’s a direct result of an irrational fear of Big Bird that I developed as a child, a fear that remains with me to this day! So I found myself nodding and smiling when I read what thisisloveforever had written about Twig’s use of yellow.

I love yellow …. and the last scene in Slumdog Millionaire on the train platform where she is wearing the fabulous yellow scarf is one of my favourite ever :-)
Make friends with yellow .. it cheers you up no end!

The first thing I did when I moved into my house was purge it of all the yellow walls – it’s a colour I can’t live with in large quantities. I know it’s supposed to look happy and sunny but if anything, in Northern light, I think it does the opposite!

However, I have actually come around recently to the idea of it as an accent colour, particularly when twinned with a cool dark grey.

And now these pics are making me re-examine my whole relationship with yellow, which I think could become a very happy one indeed, if only I owned that gorgeous chiffon dress…

PS. My nickname for a thankfully brief period of time was ‘Big Bird’ – quote: ‘Cos yer big and yer a bird.’ Ruthless Glaswegian logic.

Oh yes SJ, I love that scene too and I just wish I had Freida Pinto’s good looks and lovely skintone to carry off yellow in the same way. It’s funny, after publishing this post I noticed the yellow in the cushion on my sofa in the last post, so I think that yellow might actually be slowly starting to creep into my interiors consciousness!

I’m totally with you Angela, I just couldn’t live with yellow walls but I’m loving it as an accent colour too. I just read a funny post on Abigail Aherne’s blog yesterday about a recent yellow wall disaster and she’s now firmly in the “yellow for accents” only camp too so we’re in pretty good company!

Oh my god, I cracked up laughing at your PS! There’s nothing quite like the Glasgow wit/ruthless logic!
